Two local woman are reaching out to the public as they collect Christmas cards to send to troops overseas.

Lauren Eliopoulos, of Foxborough, and Emily Spencer, of Norwood, set a goal to send 300,000 Christmas cards overseas to troops by Christmas.

The two woman have already collected 220,000 holiday cards from all over the world. They are now trying to collect 80,000 by Christmas.

Eliopoulos is the sister of Cpl. George Eliopolous, who is headed to his second tour in the Middle East after the first of the year. Spencer is the wife of 1st Lt. Scott Spencer, who is currently deployed to the Middle East.

The women say they were doing this on their own, but when they met, it only made sense to start the project together.

“Little bit later in that year I met Lauren through a mutual friend and the two of us live so close together that we figured why not join forces and try to do something like this together," said Spencer.

With Eliopoulous adding, "It’s about the troops, it’s about their sacrifice. It’s not just about making a card. It’s about learning about the sacrifices everybody makes.”

Anyone who is interested in helping Eliopoulos and Spencer reach their goal can send letters to:
