Two police officers were injured Sunday while working at the scene of a fire in Walpole.
Walpole Police Chief John Carmichael said the officers were first on the scene at the house fire on Norton Avenue and evacuated everyone. Carmichael said a fire hose somehow got tangled and knocked the two police officers over.
One of the police officers was airlifted to the hospital with a serious head injury. The other was taken to the hospital with a broken arm.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but firefighters believe a lit cigarette is to blame.
