Three people, including two little boys, remain hospitalized after an ATV crash on New Year’s Eve in Fitchburg.

"It’s the longest five days of our lives, no parent or grandparent should see their kids go through what we’ve seen them go through," said Jim St. Cyr, grandfather to one of the boys.

On New Year’s Eve, the two boys hopped on the back of two ATVs that were being driven by two adults when they were involved in a crash.

"It’s not a phone call anyone should have to receive," said Ashley St. Cyr, mother of one of the boys. Her son has a compound fracture to his leg and his best friend suffered a severe head injury so bad, he was not breathing when rescue crews arrived on the scene. One of the boy’s fathers lost a leg.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
