Police arrested dozens of people early Sunday morning after they said a house party got out of hand.

The party took place at a house on Maple Avenue, just off the campus of Bridgewater State University. Police said people were drinking inside the house and outside in the house’s yard. Things inside the house were allegedly broken and people nearby said they heard glass shattering. Police said they also found street signs inside the house.

In all, 41 people were arrested, including the two men who live there. Police said many of those arrested were under 21.

Bridgewater Police Chief Christopher Delmonte issued a statement:

"This is not the typical result of a police response to a loud party. The number of people arrested and the charges levied against each of them should underscore the burden a few can place on neighborhoods and the amount of municipal resources required to restore order."

Everyone arrested will appear in court this week.
