The victims include an 11-year-old, a 21-year-old male, a 20-year-old male, a 21-year-old female, and a 20-year-old female.
The mother of two of the victims, including the 11-year-old, told 7News the three other victims are also her children’s friends and that the shooting took place at a birthday party in her backyard.
She said she’s in disbelief that this happened.
“It sounded like firecrackers, but it was the gunshots,” the mother said. “Two of my children were hit, three of their friends was hit. Whoever did this, and whoever you’re looking for, you got the wrong person. Trust me, you’re gonna be dealt with. That’s what I am gonna tell you. You will be caught and you will be dealt with.”
The 11-year-old is back home.
Officers also located a vehicle with gunshot damage near Washington Street.
Police received the first reports of the shooting around 10 p.m.
“On a summer night like this, we want to make sure that every street in every community, every part of our city should be enjoyable and unfortunately tonight we saw that we have a lot more work to do,” Mayor Michelle Wu said at the scene of the incident.
Officers were seen placing evidence markers in the middle of the residential road. Neighbors peered out of their windows to see what was happening.
