METHUEN, MASS. (WHDH) - A 6-year-old boy is dead after police said he was thrown from a car during a crash in Methuen.

The crash happened at around 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Berkeley Street and East Brook Place. Flor de Paz said she was taking her son Brian to the Y before she went to work. Police said her car was struck on the driver’s side by a utility truck and Brian was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

De Paz was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other passengers were in her car.

“What happened this morning is a nightmare, I just want my son back,” said an inconsolable de Paz as she sat in her pastor’s kitchen.

Police said the van continued traveling on Berkeley Street, crashing through a fence and into a wall of Meeting House Hill Cemetery. The driver of the van remained on scene and cooperated with police.

The crash remains under investigation. De Paz said she is unsure if Brian was wearing his seatbelt but said he did not always listen to her when she told him to put it on.

No charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
