A 70-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a Wareham man in his own home, according to Wareham police.

John Witty of Berkley, was arraigned in court on Friday one count of murder, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

Witty pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail.

Prosecutors say Witty told police he had recently learned his longtime girlfriend had been romantically involved with the victim, John E. Williams, in the past. Prosecutors believe Witty became distraught and killed Williams.

The woman died in January.

At around 11:48 a.m. on Tuesday, police got a report of a person unresponsive inside 120 Glenn Charlie Road, according to the DA’s office.

Police found 70-year-old Williams bleeding from several wounds. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the DA’s office.

Authorities believe Witty stabbed Williams once and shot him 10 times. Authorities believe the murder happened on Monday.

An autopsy concluded Williams died from multiple gunshot wounds and sharp force injuries, according to the DA’s office.

Prosecutors say police found a shotgun inside Witty’s home along with rifles and ammunition. Police also found blood on Witty’s hands and inside his car, according to prosecutors.
