Most of us woke up to the sight of snow this Sunday morning. However, with most temperatures above freezing, the wet snow that fell wasn’t able to stick around for long. The highest accumulations were up to around 1.5″. We even saw a new record set in Blue Hill with 1.6″ of snow accumulation for this day in November.
Even though the talk of the town was the snow, the real weather headline for today was the wind. Gusty winds out of the NE brought wind chill readings down below freezing. A gust recorded in Nantucket howled through at 70 mph!
We may have quickly said “farewell” to the snow before the shovels and snowplows needed to come out of hibernation, but the winds won’t be as quick to leave us. Expect breezy conditions through the night and into Monday. This could be a helpful thing on a couple of accounts… First, the wind will keep the “blow drying” effect going on our roads, which means that we shouldn’t have to battle much ice during the bitterly cold morning commute (this doesn’t count for some of those side roads, walkways and driveways that have collected standing water or slush – so please use caution). Second, the winds will help keep our morning lows from falling any lower in this very cold air mass. With all of that said, morning lows all around the area will get to freezing and some, well below. It’s amazing that we haven’t yet seen our first frost in the city (until tomorrow morning when we see a freeze), but we still managed to report falling snow for 4 hours today in Boston.
The bright sunshine will return to kick off the work week but with morning lows as cold as they’re getting tomorrow, it will be difficult to warm up tomorrow afternoon. The breeze will be chilly and highs will top out around 50°.
Here’s that saying again: “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute. It will change.” By the time we hit Wednesday we warm up to the mid 60s!!
Didn’t Wilson Phillips sing a song about the weather?? The one that goes, “Hold on for on more day!” (“I know that there is pain, but ya hold on for one more day and ya break free from the chaaaainnns….”)
