A Brockton man who turned himself in to police in connection with a deadly hit-and-run is now under arrest.

He appeared in court after being taken into custody at his home.

Police say he killed a 25-year-old man outside a bar and didn’t stop.

Nilton Goncalves, 39 of Brockton, ducked cameras in court as he faced charges in a deadly hit-and-run.

The prosecutor said Goncalves was behind the wheel of the dark Jaguar sedan caught on video hitting a man outside a Brockton bar on Thanksgiving night.

Sergio Lincona, 25, was taken off life support on Monday morning.

The owner of the Jaguar came forward but said Goncalves had borrowed the car.

Police say a friend asked Goncalves about damage to the car.

Police say Goncalves eventually came in and told them he panicked the night of the accident and hadn’t slept since.

The judge agreed with the prosecutor to hold Goncalves on $10,000 bail.

Goncalves relatives and supporters of his alleged victim’s family left court without talking.
