SOUTH BOSTON (WHDH) – Oscar winning actor, Robert Duvall was in Boston Friday. He spent the morning sitting in on day eight of James Whitey Bulger’s trial.
“He’s always been a favorite of mine. It was nice to see him here,” said Steve Davis, the brother one of one the alleged victims.
He gave a quick thumbs up as he left and the trial continued upstairs. There 7News learned for the FBI Bulger was known as BS 1544, a TE top echelon informant. Bulger insisted he wasn’t a rat but prosecutors showed jurors the three by five cards that said Bulger was providing information on organized crime in Boston.
“It’s nice to see all the real proof in writing and the evidence that he was a rat informant that everybody knew he was,” said Davis.
It was just more vindication for family members who said Bulger was the man behind brutal murders like on in 1973 that involved Frank Capizza. He was in the back seat of a car that was sprayed with bullets. He testified, “for two and a half minutes 100 slugs hit the automobile and it imploded.”
He said, “although I was hit in the head, felt warm blood coming down my neck and I was in excruciating pain in my back I said ‘let’s get the [expletive] out of this car Bud, come on. And I put my hand up to his neck where his head should have been.’”
There was enough drama in the courtroom Friday to fill any Hollywood screen play and it left players in a real drama, wondering whom Duvall was studying.
“They were going to do a movie about the court scene. Would he play me? And he said ‘oh.’ I said, ‘No you’re not that good looking anyways,’” said Davis.
The man who supervised the former convicted FBI agent John Connolly is set to take the stand on Monday.
