U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy welcomed members of Major League Baseball’s All-Star tour at her residence on Friday.
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell, Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie and Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve were among those who attended the ceremony at the ambassador’s residence.
The MLB All-Stars are in Japan to play a five-game series across Osaka, Tokyo, Sapporo and Okinawa. The series marks the first MLB All-Star tour of Japan since 2006. Japan’s national team, known as “Samurai Japan,” beat the MLB All-Stars 2-0 in the first game of the series on Wednesday in Osaka.
Kennedy, the 56-year-old daughter of late President John F. Kennedy, arrived in Japan a year ago to become the first woman to serve as U.S. ambassador to Japan.
