The American man who allegedly joined ISIS says he surrendered to Kurdish forces.
Mohamad Jamal Khweis, 26, says he traveled to Turkey before entering Syria to join Isis.
Khweis is from Virginia.
He spoke on a Kurdish TV channel after he was captured.
"I didn’t really support their ideology and that’s, at that point that’s when I decided that I needed to escape," said Khweis.
U.S. officials are determining whether his reports are valid.
