BOSTON (WHDH) - Police have made an arrest in connection with the dragging of four officers who were hospitalized Tuesday night.
Police say Vincent Weaks, 34 of Roxbury, was arrested and will appear in Roxbury District Court on four charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Four police officers were struck and dragged by a car while addressing a call outside a bar in Dorchester Tuesday night, according to the Boston Police Department.
Four officers addressed a call for a man with a gun outside the “Dublin House” bar at the intersection of Columbia Road and Stoughton Street in Dorchester around 12:30 a.m.
Boston Police Superintendent Night Commander Randall Halstead said two officers approached a car in the area that fit the description while the two other officers were on back-up duty. One officer placed his hand on the car door when the driver took off, striking and injuring the officers. All four officers at the scene were hospitalized, according to police officials.
“He accelerated at a high rate of speed, dragging a couple of officers down the street and narrowly missing striking a couple of officers in the wagon that was parked on Stoughton street,” Halstead said.
The officers are expected to recover from their injuries.
Police followed the car for about a mile up to Draper Street before it got away.
