SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — State police have arrested a suspect in connection with the hit-and-run death of a man who stopped to help at the scene of an accident on Interstate 91 in Springfield.

Police say 55-year-old Miguel Garcia is charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death. He was arrested Sunday night and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

Multiple vehicles were involved in the crash at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

Police say 21-year-old Jeremy Ramos, of Holyoke, stopped to help the crash victims, but was struck by a car that then left the scene. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another man was arrested in connection with the crash itself. That man was charged with drunken driving and other offenses.
