UPTON, MASS. (WHDH) - At least eight cats were removed from a house in Upton, where officials said they have had this same problem before.

Neighbors on School Street said they called the Board of Health after noticing a terrible smell coming from the house. Two dead cats were removed from the house and eight more were surrendered to the MSPCA. The cats are now at the MSPCA shelter in Jamaica Plain.

MSPCA crews said they were unable to catch any other cats because they were hiding in the house. Crews believe about a dozen more cats are still in the home.

The two sisters who live in the home were taken away by ambulance as a precaution because of the filthy conditions in the house. Neighbors said the MSPCA had visited the house a few years and removed around 80 cats.

Crews said they will be back Thursday to try and catch more of the cats.
