HAVERHILL, MASS. (WHDH) - Authorities have identified a driver who was killed early Monday morning after his car crashed into a Haverhill store.
Officials say the vehicle slammed into the front of KC Carpets just after 2 a.m. after the driver lost control of their car.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Kevin Casado of Haverhill, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A man who worked near the scene told 7NEWS he jumped into action, rushing over to help after hearing about the accident.
“I heard the big bang and the lady who delivers our daily news – she told me ‘there’s an accident outside,’ so I ran, called 911,” said Vipul Chopra.
Chopra described how the car quickly burst into flames and that he did what he could to try and save the driver.
“By the time I got to the car, it’s – already, the fire started, so I took out the fire extinguisher and put out the fire,” Chopra explained.
The vehicle was later removed from the structure as Massachusetts State Police began accident reconstruction work to determine the crash’s exact cause.
