For a day that featured a sharp cold frontal passage, it was a pretty mild afternoon. Highs made it to the low 70s in most spots and the sun was spectacular!
However, that is typical of cool airmasses in September. They don’t typically shove the cold down your throat right away. Instead, they ooze in. And by morning you wonder if you left the front door open.
This one is no exception. However, it is a bit colder than we’ve seen in a while. I’ve kept a large temperature range in my forecast overnight thanks to the fact that this airmass isn’t completely seated in New England just yet. Breezes stay up along the coast (in fact, strengthening through the night) whereas the winds go light or calm elsewhere.
Cool air’s around all day tomorrow too. Stiff breezes from the NNE keep us sealed in the mid/upper 50s along the coast (brrr!), while others make a run for 60 or 61. As the winds settle Friday night, you’ll want the gloves and hats for the football games. In fact, I think the temperatures in Greater Boston and along the North/South Shores will be colder tomorrow night than tonight!
No matter, we’re warming the weekend up in grand style. Sun and milder south winds will boost us near 70 Saturday and in the 70s Sunday. Clouds may get the best of us on Sunday, but any light showers should hold off until after dark.
Now it’s time to see how tough you are: heat or no heat next two nights?
Personally, I’m on the losing end of this one: my wife and daughter will crank it tonight.
