Ayer Police are investigating after an elderly woman was shot while lying in her bed. 

On Wednesday, Ayer Police received reports of shots fired through the wall of a home on Harvard Road. 

When officers arrived, they determined a resident of 26C Harvard Road had fired several rounds through his wall into the adjoining residence at 26B. 

One of the rounds struck an elderly person in the ankle while they she was lying in bed. She was transported to the hospital for treatment. 

At the same time, Ayer Police received notification that the resident of 26C had removed his court-ordered tracking bracelet. 

Ayer Police took the resident, Treyvon Choate, into custody on several firearms and assault and battery charges as well as a warrant from probation for removing his tracking device. 

The incident is under investigation.
