A baby is in serious but stable condition in a hospital after being left in a dumpster.
The incident happened in Lawrence, Kansas.
Neighbors said they’re shocked but thankful the six-month-old baby was found alive.
A neighbor said he heard the baby crying from inside this trash compactor.
When Lawrence police responded early this morning, they found the baby inside the trash at an apartment complex.
The baby had possible life threatening injuries and was taken to a Kansas City hospital.
Investigators are looking at two other active crime scenes. The nearby apartment and the man’s vehicle, who neighbors believe is responsible for putting the baby in the dumpster.
One neighbor, who didn’t want to show his face, said he called 911 around 1:00 a.m. because he saw the man trying to break into other cars while yelling strange things in the parking lot.
Neighbors said it all resulted from a domestic dispute.
A friend of the mother said she had left for the night to stay with a friend.
Police cannot confirm if they have anyone in custody but they did say they have been in contact with the family of the baby.
