Reigning two-time men’s singles gold medal winner Lin Dan arrived in Rio on Monday after training in Sao Paulo for approximately ten days with his Chinese teammates. Lin turns his focus to capturing his third-consecutive gold medal in the men’s singles event after beating Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
The 32-year old will play his first match of the tournament on Thursday, August 11th, at 7:25 AM ET against 27-year old Austrian, David Obernosterer. Lin’s other Group E opponents are Nguyen Tien Minh from Vietnam and Vladimir Malkov from Russia.
China’s badminton team, led by Lin, won all five gold medals at the 2012 Olympics in London and are looking to repeat that feat in Rio.
