BOSTON (WHDH) - Governor Baker is filing legislation that would create tougher punishment for people who assault police officers.
The bill would upgrade an assault on an officer from a misdemeanor to a felony.
The minimum sentence for someone convicted of injuring a police officer would be one year in prison.
The inspiration behind the bill was Auburn Police Officer Ronald Tarrantino who was shot and killed during a traffic stop last month.
