SOMERVILLE, MASS. (WHDH) - Authorities say a person was struck and killed by an MBTA commuter rail train in Somerville.
According to the MBTA Transit Police, officials received a call at approximately 1:30 p.m. for a report of a person struck by a Fitchburg line train.
Upon investigation, officials determined a bicyclist went through the gates, which were functioning properly, and continued into the train’s right-of-way.
The bicyclist was described as a male between 25-30 years old. He died as a result of his injuries.
The Transit Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s office is currently investigating.
Subsequent trains on the Fitchburg line are canceled. The MBTA estimates that service on the Fitchburg line will resume at 6:18 p.m.
