That morning coffee not waking you up fast enough?  Step outside, take a deep breath, and that ought to wake you right up!  A fresh charge of frigid air is in place as we start the day with temperatures in the single digits and wind chills run around -5 to -10.  At least we have the sun.

That sunshine warms us up to the lower 20s this afternoon and then as winds turn out of the south tonight, the southerly breeze actually warms us up overnight as temperatures go from the lower 20s to lower 30s by daybreak Sunday.  From there, it’s an easy jump into the 40s and that’ll ensure that tomorrow’s storm is mainly rain for all of us.  The best chance for heavy snow in this one is all the way back into Vermont.

Sprinkles and lighter showers begin midday tomorrow across eastern Mass with heavier rain at that time across western Mass (western and central Mass may see a few flakes mixed in at the start before all rain).  Since the plume of moisture moves more south to north vs. west to east, I can envision a day where the western half to the state picks up steady rain all afternoon, but from 495, east toward the coast, the precipitation is light until the evening as it takes a while to move east.   It eventually will get us in eastern Mass and it looks like the highest opportunity for downpours will be in the evening, through midnight.  A total of 1-1.5″ of rain is expected for most with the higher totals favoring central Mass.

AFC Championship game:  Keep the rain gear handy.  Tailgating to kickoff features lighter scattered showers/sprinkles while a steadier rain with embedded downpours is possible in the second half, especially near game’s end.  It’s conceivable that the heavy rain holds off until just after the game, but at this point, I’d at least plan on wet weather.  With a southerly wind it won’t be cold as temperatures reach the mid to upper 40s in the evening.

The rain tapers off predawn Monday, yielding to a dry holiday.

Any snow in the forecast?  It’s not a big storm that some snow lovers may want, but a weak system on Wednesday could bring a period of light snow.

Have a good weekend and goooooooo Pats!!!!!!!
