HANNIBAL, Mo. (WHDH) — Two legally blind children in Missouri quickly took action and called 911 after their mother suffered a seizure.

Laura Copeland collapsed after having a seizure at home. Right away, 6-year-old Mitch and 7-year-old Cora helped her. Mitch stayed by his mother’s side and Cora called 911. Dispatcher Laikean James said this was her first phone call from a child and she was impressed how Cora handled things.

“It just caught me by surprise how well she did and how much she knew,” said James.

Copeland said their family has had an emergency plan in place for years and her children did everything they were taught. She said she hopes this is a lesson for all families to teach their children what to do in an emergency.
