BOSTON (WHDH) - A waiting room in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Boston Medical Center is now open after it was renovated as part of One Boston Day.

7News teamed up with sponsors for donations so new furniture could be purchased. Two chairs in the waiting room turn into beds, so parents of sick children can stay overnight. Members of the 7News team also pitched in by painting the white walls with pale colors. More donations paid for toys, framed pictures and a television to make the waiting room more welcoming..

“We didn’t expect how beautiful it would be and we didn’t expect what a change it would make,” said PICU Nurse Manager Karan Barry.

Uber of Boston and Signature Staffing chipped in with donations as a way to say thank you to the hospital staff. After the Marathon bombings in 2013, the hospital admitted 21 patients.
