BROCKTON, MASS. (WHDH) - The body of a man found in the Connecticut River in Gill has been positively identified as the man responsible for the stabbing death of a Quincy College professor.
Tyler Hagmaier was accused of stabbing his neighbor, 76-year-old Vibeke Rasmussen, to death earlier this month. The Quincy College professor was found dead in her apartment.
The medical examiner positively identified the body on Wednesday as the 25-year-old suspect.
Hagmaier’s car was found on a bridge over the Connecticut River a day after the stabbing. Search teams looked for him the in the river but were unable to find him.
A grand jury indicted Hagmaier in May, charging him with murder in the May 6 stabbing.
State Police determined Hagmaier was the only person responsible for Rasmussen’s death.
According to police, evidence of his responsibility for the murder included written admissions by Hagmaier found in a journal, as well as DNA evidence recovered from the murder scene, including a sweatshirt and cigarette butt.
