MASHPEE, Mass. (AP) — Authorities said a man who apparently drowned in a Mashpee pond over the weekend went missing while trying to help another swimmer.

Police on Sunday identified the man who went missing in Ashumet Pond on Saturday as 43-year-old Dwayne Morris of Falmouth.

Morris' body was recovered at about 7 p.m. Sunday.

State police say Morris went into the water to help another swimmer who was in distress in about 55 feet of water, then got into trouble himself.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death which appears to be drowning.

The search for Morris involved divers as well as sonar-equipped boats.
