The body of a Harvard man who went missing a month ago was found in the Charles River Tuesday night.

Zachary Marr, 22, had been celebrating his birthday at the Bell in Hand Tavern near Faneuil Hall when he disappeared. Marr’s family said he stepped outside to smoke and was never seen again.

State Police sent divers into the water Tuesday after two people reported seeing a body in the river. The body was recovered and confirmed to be Marr.

"Although it is not the outcome we were praying for, we are grateful that Zach is coming home," said Marr’s father, Matthew Marr.

Police are investigating how Marr could have ended up in the river. Police said Marr’s body did not have any obvious signs of trauma.
