CHICAGO (WHDH) — Lee Ann Yanni is one of the Boston Marathon bombing survivors and she ran the Chicago Marathon on Sunday.

Yanni ran it six months after shrapnel from the first bomb broke her left leg, tearing through her leg muscles. The 32 year-old finished the race in five hours and 44-minutes.

Runners observed a moment of silence for the victims and families of the Boston Marathon bombings before Sunday’s race kicked off.

Security was tight with more than 40,000 runners taking part.
