BOSTON (WHDH) - A book about ALS Ice Bucket Challenge creator Pete Frates and his family is in the works.

A representative of the Frates family announced the book on Monday.

The Ice Bucket Challenge became one of the greatest social media campaigns in history and was recently credited with providing research funds needed for a major ALS breakthrough: the discovery of a gene that could lead to new treatments for the neurodegenerative disease.

“Challenge” is the true story about a man at war with his own body and the mobilization of a global army to fight ALS.

Pete Frates is a former captain of the Boston College baseball team and professional baseball player in Europe.

He was diagnosed with ALS in March 2012 at the age of 27.
