BOSTON (AP) — A new exhibit at Boston’s Logan International Airport featuring larger-than life-photographs along with the personal stories of people who have struggled with mental illness is designed to shine light on a topic often kept in the dark.
“Deconstructing Stigma: A Change in Thought Can Change a Life” opens Friday and is one piece of a campaign by McLean Hospital aimed at changing the way mental illness is perceived and treated.
The roughly 40 volunteers featured in the exhibit are as young as 16 and as old as 76. They are men, women, they are white, black and Asian. Most are ordinary people; some, like comedian Howie Mandel and NFL receiver Brandon Marshall, are celebrities.
The message is that mental illness can affect anyone.
McLean plans to bring the exhibit to other airports.
