BOSTON (WHDH) - A potential plastic bag ban for the City of Boston is making its way toward a vote.

The City Council discussed the ban for the first time at a meeting on Wednesday.

The ordinance would ban single-use plastic bags in the city and add a 5-cent fee for paper bags and thicker plastic bags.

The proposal will be handed to a committee and will have a full hearing before it’s put to a final vote.
