When Boston College coach Steve Addazio met with Pinstripe Bowl officials to make his case for the Eagles to play at Yankee Stadium, he grew so animated he knocked over his coffee.
Whatever he said worked: BC was chosen to play Penn State on Dec. 27.
The Eagles are making their second straight trip to a bowl game under Addazio. Penn State is playing in the postseason for the first time since sanctions following the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal.
Mark Holtzman, who runs non-baseball events for the New York Yankees, says the game sold out in 36 hours. That’s the fastest of the five Pinstripe Bowls so far. He says having two teams within driving distance helped out.
