BOSTON (WHDH) - A powerful church service held near Boston Sunday morning to thank local police officers.

Leaders at Morning Star Baptist Church in Mattapan led the congregation in praying for the city to “move on from violence.”

City leaders including Attorney General Maura Healey, Police Commissioner William Evans, and Mayor Marty Walsh attended the service and briefly spoke.

Boston police officers in attendance were embraced by emotional strangers as they joined hands and prayed for their safety.

The church’s bishop also taught the children’s Sunday school an important lesson to “not be afraid of these uniforms.”

He also called on the nation to focus on “the spirit of love and humility” to heal and unite the country against violence.
