BOSTON (WHDH) - A friend of the Boston Marathon bomber who helped him hide from police will be released from prison.

Azamat Tazhayakov was convicted of helping bomber Dzhokar Tsarnaev evade capture after bombing the marathon.

Tazhayakov has been behind bars in Kentucky since shortly after the bombings.

Immigration and customs enforcement officials will likely take him into custody while awaiting deportation to Kazakhstan.

Tsarnaev was sentenced to death for setting off bombs at the Marathon finish line in April 2013.

He is appealing that sentence and is currently in prison in Colorado.
