A Boston Police officer recently went above the call of duty when he noticed a man upset and crying.
The police officer approached the man and struck up a conversation.
"When I was leaving, I could hear, getting in my cruiser, someone saying sir help me help me,"
Boston Police Sergeant Tim Gaughan said an elderly man was upset after his wife had been admitted to the hospital.
Despite having a handicap placard on his car, his car had been towed.
Sgt. Gaughan and the man went to the tow yard, but the man did not have the $100 to get his car back.
"I took my money out and I had all my money in a billfold, except one bill on top was a $100 bill, that was folded separate from the rest of the money," Sgt. Gaughan said. "It just kind of confirmed it was the right thing to do, what needed to be done. So I gave him the $100 bill."
The officer then showed the man how to get back to the hospital and how to find his wife.
"I got a call from his son-in-law today, thanking me very much and that his wife was admitted and he’s very grateful and he’s there and that was just the right thing to do, I guess," Sgt. Gaughan said.
The elderly man called Sgt. Gaughan on Thursday and said he was unable to pay him back. Sgt. Gaughan told him not to worry about it.
