A proposal could make major changes to the Boston Public Schools calendar and possibly eliminate February vacation.
Under the proposal, Boston Public Schools students would return to school before Labor Day. In 2017, the school year would begin Aug. 30 and in 2018 it would start on Aug. 22.
Another option would eliminate February vacation and extend winter break. Officials say they would hope to lower the amount of absences days after the new year.
In a statement, Boston Public School said:
Boston Public Schools continuously examines ways to provide improved educational outcomes for students. BPS is in the very early stages of studying and discussing potential changes to the school calendar.
Mayor Marty Walsh said, "We have gotta do what is right for the kids and if that makes and if people agree with that, we will make the change."
The proposal was on the School Committee’s agenda for March 23.
