BOSTON (WHDH) - Boston Public Schools administrators said they are considering a new model that would begin high school at seventh grade.

BPS Superindentent Tommy Chang said the model would end elementary schools at sixth grade. Seventh and eighth grades would be added to high schools. Change said enrollment in BPS schools drops severely in middle school, as many families switch to charter schools.

While some parents welcome the idea, others are concerned about seventh-graders being in the same building as 17 and 18-year-olds.

Chang said about a dozen schools have expressed interest in the change already. A draft plan on the changes will be unveiled next week.
