Quarterback Tom Brady and other key Patriots players spoke out about former teammate Aaron Hernandez, and the murder charges he will face.
Brady spoke at Gillette Stadium but was limited in terms of specifics as the Hernandez case is an ongoing investigation and there was only so much the organization allowed him to say.
“It is a terrible thing that happened. You know, look, in the city of Boston this year, what happened with the Marathon, these are terrible things that you wish never happened to anybody,” Tom Brady said. “You know, there is a very human, compassionate element that we all have and when it’s someone that has been on our team, it is a very sad thing. I think that we, as a team, you know, have tried to, you know, move forward with better awareness and understanding of these types of things. Hopefully, you know, nothing like this happens again.”
“Hopefully, we can go out and, you know, do something that our community can really be proud of. That is the important thing. We have had such great examples over the years. Whether it’s Tedy Bruschi, Troy Brown, Kevin Faulk, guys that have worn this uniform well. Not only have we been successful on the field but guys have committed so much of their time to doing things that are good in the community. You know, this, obviously, is not a time where those things are recognized. You know, there is another situation to deal with. You know, I think that I’m still really proud of those guys that have worn uniform and worn it well. Hopefully, they have gone out and tried to make the city of Boston, all of New England proud of what we do on and off the field,” said Brady.
Brady also said he believes in the Patriot way and that the men on the field will take this team forward to remind fans why they are the team that Boston has come to embrace over the past few years.
