BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — A 57-year-old man was shot to death in Bridgeport on Friday morning after a verbal altercation in the street, authorities said.

City resident Philip Ingram was shot just after 9 a.m., police said.

He was the city’s third homicide victim of the year.

Investigators were seeking surveillance camera footage and witnesses to the shooting.

Authorities received a 911 call from someone who said a person got into a “verbal altercation” with the caller and brandished a weapon in the area of Arctic and Jane streets. Police said “that male party then proceeded to follow the individual with the weapon.”

Police were also alerted by the city’s gunfire sound detection system.

Officers were on the scene within minutes and found Ingram critically wounded in the street.

Ingram was taken to Bridgeport Hospital and pronounced dead about an hour later.
