WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — A Bristol man has been arrested after authorities say he swung a machete at several people in Waterbury and pressed the blade to a woman's neck.

The Republican-American reports that Edward Donahue was arrested after police stopped a car he was driving early Wednesday morning. Police say they found a machete in the back seat.

Witnesses say Donahue was drinking beer and whiskey at a party. He was told to leave after he knocked a drink out of a woman's hands and pushed her to the ground. Witnesses say he put the blade to the neck of a woman who was in the driveway before people pushed him away.

The 27-year-old Donahue was held on $50,000 bond. His public defender told a judge the conduct was the result of an "undiagnosed alcohol problem."
