The man accused of carjacking a woman in a mall parking lot last week was in court Monday for a dangerousness hearing.
Police said a woman, her mother and her infant daughter were leaving the Macy’s at Westgate Mall last Tuesday when she noticed Jose Robles sitting in her car. Robles allegedly told her he entered the wrong car by mistake but then his tone changed. Police said Robles pointed a gun at the woman and demanded her car and her purse. The woman managed to get her baby out of her car before Robles drove off.
State Police said they chased Robles to Stoughton, where he crashed into a telephone pole and tried to flee on foot. Robles’ attorney said his client was only carrying a BB gun, not an actual firearm, and that he apologized to police for a crime.
Prosecutors said Robles has a long rap sheet, including at least two previous arrests for carjacking. The judge ordered Robles held for up to 120 days without bail.
Robles is due back in court next month.
