Two brothers are facing charges for allegedly breaking into a dead man’s home in Bellingham and stealing checks and other items.

Police say Stephen and and Mark Landry broke into the home of 68-year-old Edward Gibson and stole Gibson’s checkbook. Police say Gibson’s body was inside when the pair went into the home.

Police say the pair wrote thousands in checks to themselves and sold Gibson’s car since the last fall.

Police say Gibson died in summer 2015 of natural causes. However, police were never notified of Gibson’s death because he had no relatives.

Police say they found Gibson’s checkbook inside the Landrys’ apartment, along with his computer and televisions

The pair is being held on $100,000 cash bail. They could face additional charges as police continue taking inventory of items the brothers allegedly stole.
