DURHAM, Maine (AP) — The leader of the Durham Historical Society wonders if a Stephen King fan was behind a break-in at a 214-year-old Methodist Church where the author once delivered a sermon.
Historical society Chairwoman Tia Nadeau Wilson tells the Sun Journal that thieves targeted several items seen in a photo taken of King at the pulpit in 1984.
She said those items included a flag, a cross and a memorial plaque on a wall and added, “I think something morbid is going on.” Others collectives also were taken.
Police are investigating.
The church in West Durham is not far from Stephen King’s childhood home. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places.
