A California man who was inches away from death is now reflecting on an extremely close call.
A huge metal beam slammed through his windshield, but left him with only scratches.
The driver said he is glad he was paying attention, otherwise he may not have been alive to tell his frightening story.
Don Lee said he still can’t believe he survived.
Last Friday as he was driving south on a highways in San Jose, a large beam flew off of a truck ahead of him and headed straight for his car.
He said he felt a surprising sense of calm.
“I saw it clearly coming through the window and the entire thing coming through like a missile hitting me,” Lee said.
The beam just barely missed Lee, leaving only a few scratches on his arm.
“I would have died,” he said. “I keep looking at the picture, it’s hard to believe just one moment and it could be life or death.”
Lee used to build and drive race cars and credits his experience with keeping him calm behind the wheel.
He said he never closed his eyes even when the beam hit his BMS so hard it cut the engine.
