The holiday season is a time of giving and that is exactly what a California police chief and his family did.
They used their Christmas money to buy a car for a homeless family.
The bold act of kindness is now getting a lot of attention.
Marysville Police Chief Aaron Easton spotted a post on the Internet from a homeless family.
“Family lives in the Yuba County river bottoms,” Tim Conn, who is homeless, said. “Been here for about two and a half, three years. Just can’t get a step ahead. Get a job. The economy is shot. And now car is shot.”
A Good Samaritan offered to sell a car to the Conn family for a great price, but they didn’t have enough money.
Easton read about the family’s financial troubles on Facebook.
“When I saw this opportunity, I wanted to help this family out,” Easton said.
Easton sat his three children down and asked if they were okay with him buying the car for the homeless family using their Christmas money.
“To their credit, I have some great kids and all of them said, ‘Absolutely,’ without hesitation, ‘Let’s help this family out,’” Easton said.
“My kids are my life,” Conn said. “Aaron helped me provide for my kids. That’s just it. My kids are everything.”
The Chief even invited the family’s two girls to walk in a Christmas parade last week, fulfilling one of their wishes.
Little did they know, the Chief also got his wish: his daily goal to show kindness in honor of his compassionate wife, whom he lost just months ago.
“I think it was a good lesson for my children,” Easton said. “I was glad they could be a part of it. They could feel a sense of pride, that they helped other people out.”
