A Cambridge police officer is being investigated for an alleged hit-and-run involving a bicyclist.

Just before 8 p.m. Sunday, a woman on her bicycle near Broadway and Portland Street was hit by a car that did not stop. Monday night, Cambridge Police confirmed the officer, who was off duty at the time, "was involved in a hit-and-run accident." Police did not say if anyone witnessed the crash or how the officer was tracked down.

The police officer has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation. The hit-and-run is being investigated by the District Attorney’s office, State Police and Cambridge Police.

The bicyclist was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police have not released the name of the officer or if there was any damage to the vehicle.
