Almost July?  Really?

Here we are, just a couple days away from flipping the calendar and heading into the heart of summer, and the best we could do all day for many towns was to hover around 59 degrees with a raw easterly wind!  The exception to that as far Southeast Mass, where around Buzzards Bay, the Cape and the Islands, we nudged into the 70-75 degree range.

You certainly paid the price this morning though across the Cape and deserved those 70s after 50+mph gusts knock some trees down and produce scattered power outages.  The strongest gusts from the day include a 58mph gust on Nantucket, 57mph gust in East Falmouth and a 54-55mph gust around Duxbury and Wellfleet. Of course, not only did we pick up strong winds, the rain came down in buckets at times last night and early this morning, providing 1-2″ of widespread rain.  Rockport topped the list with 2.67″. http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=BOX&product=PNS&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off

We can only go up from here weather-wise, and we will starting tomorrow as cloudy skies in the morning yield to partial sunshine and temps in the mid 70s for the afternoon.  Tuesday looks even better, near 80 with some sun.

Wednesday does feature a few scattered thunderstorms, locally strong, with higher humidity and temps near 80.

Thursday and Friday should dry out.

What about the big weekend?  Right now the Friday – Sunday stretch looks mainly dry with temps in the 70s to lower 80s.  I don’t see any major storms like the ones we dealt with the last two weekends, however, there will be enough energy around at some point to produce a couple showers/thunderstorm.  We may have a few around overnight Friday/early Saturday, but this far out, the timing may change.

Anyhow, if this is your vacation week, it looks decent as temps get back toward the average of near 80 degrees.
