BOSTON (WHDH) - State Police are investigating a fatal crash on I-93 Northbound, early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a report of a Volvo going over the guardrail near exit 14 in Boston, just before 12:45 a.m.

State Police say a 50-year-old Chatham man, now identified as Daniel P. Lee, left the roadway, went over the guardrail, went airborne and then struck a Honda traveling on Morrissey Boulevard.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, Nurys N. Castillo, 21 of Dorchester, was transported to Boston Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials are investigating what caused the Volvo to leave the roadway and go over the guardrail.

The Northbound side of Morrissey Boulevard was closed during the incident until the scene was cleared just before 5 a.m.
