After their friend Kevin could not come along on a weekend trip for his birthday, his friends decided to make sure he would still get to join them in the festivities.
Kevin Lee said his friends wanted to take him on a weekend trip for his birthday. Since he had just welcomed his second daughter with his fiancee, he told them he could not go. He later found out the trip was to Montreal and they brought along a cardboard cutout of him. Photos posted online show Lee’s friends with "Cardboard Kevin" in the car, at the gym and even at a nightclub.
Initial stories online said Lee’s fiancee was the one who told him he was unable to join his friends. Lee denied this and said the decision was his since his friends never told him where they would be going. He and his fiancee were also upset that people made her the target of online ridicule. Lee’s friends have since apologized for the prank.
"Sorry for Kevin and to his family," said Lee’s friend Michael Lexner. "The intention was not for anyone to get hurt."
